Make it delicious.

My 39, Day 30.

The cookie swaps I’ve attended before have always included kids. And kid-made cookies are not the stuff of my sweet tooth dreams.

Goopy, uneven frosting accented in shades of blood red icing. Blech.

“But you do it for the memories!” people say. (I know this because I am one of those people.)

Still. The memories are in the making and baking – aren’t they?

Are my kids really going to suffer some grave consequence if I don’t choke down the unappetizingly squeezed food like creation they just plucked from the Easy Bake Oven?

Moreover, until all this strength training turns my metabolism into something other than mediocre, I have to be way choosy about my splurges.

Enter the upcoming cookie swap. No kids allowed.

The rules are few (four dozen cookies plus recipe), and the choices are overwhelming.

After a quick search through Good Housekeeping’s Best Christmas Cookies of All Time list, I discovered my choices are broader than I thought.

Who knew that within this humble category you’ve also got bars and wheels and truffles and drops and wands to choose from too?

And even though I lingered on the more outlandish recipes, none tempted me enough to mess with perfection.

So I’m leaning toward the Thick and Chewy White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies. Or the Triple Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake Cookies. Or the Brown Butter Nutella-Stuffed Oatmeal Cookies.

If you need me, just follow the trail of flour.

Nom nom nom.
